How to vote if you don't want a Neoliberal Green Party

How to vote if you don't want a Neoliberal Green Party

holysirsalad

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neoliberalism Can you please explain why you think any of the candidates are neoliberals?

[deleted]

I'll give you an example; https://www.andrewwest.ca/issues/deficit-and-the-debt Andrew West wants a balanced budget in 5 years if possible. How would that be done without austerity or neoliberal policies?

holysirsalad

Have you considered asking him? The Right parrots this same FUD when we talk about UBI/GLI. Many candidates have talked about balancing the budget and paying for new social programs by cancelling subsidies to unsustainable industries. West's platform is too small to really draw any conclusions from (one of the reasons I don't like him as a candidate is that he's really light on details). I'm not saying anyone should or shouldn't vote for the guy but if you're going to level an accusation like that you ought to be able to back it up with something more substantial than FUD hand waving

[deleted]

Well I've watched three of the debates now with him speaking. He also says in multiple interviews he wants to bring the party "to the centre". In Canada I guess I would challenge you to think critically about where the centre is right now. Also you could take a gander at his Twitter to see what he posts and retweets. The guy is a straight up neoliberal. No FUD here, just facts.

pm-me-yer-jerbs

Austerity is part of the definition. Op, do you know what neoliberalism is?

[deleted]

See the wikipedia article posted above and compare it to Annamie, West, and Merner's platforms. You will see the overlap.

pm-me-yer-jerbs

None want austerity.

[deleted]

Andrew West does. Look at his platform.

UncleIrohsPimpHand

Prove it in your own words.

[deleted]

I already did. See the post below.

UncleIrohsPimpHand

Where?

[deleted]

You'll have to read the entire post discussion.

UncleIrohsPimpHand

All I got was shrieking about how someone is neoliberal and someone else is not. There was no policy breakdown, nor evidence to support any particular candidate falling into a category or not.

[deleted]

Whoa! That's amazing! You can hear shrieking from words? How do you do that? Also, yeah my mistake I thought everyone on this forum was educated. Didn't realize the GPC reddit still had well.. ignorant people. Since it's not a space with common knowledge I will approach differently in future threads. BTW UncleIroh I hope you'll lose graciously later this month.

Funguy-69

None of the candidates are neoliberals. Must be a part of toxic team Dimitri to post trash like this.

[deleted]

Please see the wikipedia link posted above to get a better understanding of what neoliberalism is.

Funguy-69

Which none of the candidates fit.

[deleted]

You haven't looked at their platforms, have you.

[deleted]

Your argument is "I know you are but what am I"? Well it's pretty clear who won this argument lol

UncleIrohsPimpHand

Define neoliberalism in your own words. If you use Wikipedia, you lose.

[deleted]

You first. Let the accuser set the terms of the debate.

UncleIrohsPimpHand

You're literally the accuser.

[deleted]

I'm stating a fact, you disagree with the fact, you need to create a reason why you disagree with that fact besides just saying I'm wrong.

neoliberalismkills69

If you really cared about the planet you wouldn't be attacking fellow greens and attacking the real neoliberals the elected Liberal Party of Canada. None of the candidates are neoliberals.
