I actually alternate hobbies. When I'm feeling burnout coming in with one of them I take a break and work on a different one.
Same. It's a hobby, not an obligation. If I'm tired or frustrated with it, I put it down for however long it takes to pique my interest again. Could be switching to a different mini painting project, or just not painting at all for a while.
Of course, if you play with your minis, there could be the frustration of seeing the unfinished models on the tabletop, but maybe that in itself will get your motivation back up to paint a bit more on them.
I'm going to try painting one 'Mech instead of these big units for my historical army and see if that helps, I enjoy doing just one more than a whole army, and who doesn't love big stompy robots?
