Barbaric Despoilers completely broken.

It's always been devastating to the AI. I've been playing that way for about a year now, and this isn't anything new. It's just that now people are hearing about it and actually trying it out.
What *is* new is that it's one of a very few ways to increase your population past 2350-ish, so it's actually good now instead of being practically useless.
Hmm. Keep some AI alive with some minimal territory so i can raid them time to time. Sounds interesting.
Eh, nihilistic acquisition gives you the benefits of raiding without the baggage that come with the rest of the civic.
> I cant imagine how rage inducing it is on multi-player.
It’s not rage inducing at all, because you get your shit wrecked by a player who picked actually good civics and is outproducing you. The only time you get to raid any significant amount of pops is if you’ve already won the war, and then you’ve already won the war and they would have been conquered if you didn’t have the trash civic. It’s only good against the AI.
Not to mention that they can just press the surrender button.
I mean you get the pops if you conquer them anyway.
The difference is that an empire's cost for new pops is 100+0.5(X), where X is how many pops the empire has in all. Raiding them gives you their pops, meaning the number of pops they have goes down, meaning it costs them less to get more pops.
End result is those planets regrow new pops much faster in the nearly empty empire than they would've if they were part of your bloated empire. The difference can be as many as 4 pops per planet in 10 years, vs 0 pops per planet in 10 years because you have 1k+ pops.
It's a pretty big difference, all told.
It's better to just conquer the whole galaxy than waiting for AI to regrow. You can just create vassals if you want to farm the AI.
If you're just trying to end the game as quickly as possible, sure.
They can take the ascension perk, or just defeat you in military combat. Genociders get stronger bonuses.
No it’s a pretty weak civic. The biggest problem is that ANY empire can get the raiding stance with their first ascension perk. So to many it’s just an empire with an negative opinion modifier. If you played it on a challenging difficulty you’ll see what I mean. Especially since it gives you no combat advantage.
Don’t get me wrong I love the civic and have gone to great lengths to make it useful. Here’s a general guide I made.
But it’s still only for those who love the civic. It really needs a buff.
