Wow your camera got a lot better too.
To be fair the top picture was probably taken 7 years ago…we just didn’t start major updates till last year.
It is also possible the pictures were taken from a different distance and then zoomed in for comparison picture distorting the quality of the before.
The vibrancy of the area as a whole is incredible. The rock wall is completely different color and the neighbors house REALLY pops!
I just saw the picture comparison, and thought it was a before and after paint job. Didnt notice the landscape at all. Nice color contrast though.
It's cool you took the update pick at close to the same time of day as the older picture. Not a knock on the wonderful job OP did, but I do get a kick out of the before/after pics here on r/landscaping, because they're all like those weight loss photos. The before picture is taken with a potato, no makeup, frowning, frumpy clothes and bad lighting. Then the after picture is smiling, neatly groomed, professional lighting, color corrected and shot with a Hasselblad.
Hasselback to Hasselblad
I prefer a Hasselhoff myself.
Are you [German](https://www.washingtonpost.com/arts-entertainment/2019/12/17/year-love-affair-between-germany-david-hasselhoff-started-berlin-wall/)?
His double typo is the real reason I’m upvoting.
Looks great. The paint and the new garage doors made a huge difference
I can’t quite tell if the garage doors are new or just repainted.
Definitely new. The style is a more contemporary door
Not sure why you are getting downvoted.
My dad had his garage doors painted like this.
The window looking parts make me think these are new though. Looks reflective like glass or plastic.
This subreddit is weird. There was a post recently where the OP asked for ideas for landscaping a naturally rocky area of their yard and I suggested a fern garden based on a fern room at a conservatory I've visited. Both OP's reply to my suggestion. basically saying thank you, and my suggestion got down-voted.
Looks really nice
Posted about a year ago looking for help. Thought some may w f to see updates.
I haven’t done anything to the roof yet. It needs replaced. Just is not end of life yet. In the next couple of years…
I assumed pressure washer.
Looks great. Way more personality.
The darker paint makes the whole space seem brighter
Gosh, you have been very busy with all that painting. The border looks lovely!
You have brought it back to life!
Are those hydrangea trees?
Damn yanks and your reasonably priced massive houses 🙃
It took me a second to remember that the use of 'yanks' is not unique to southern US vernacular. Which was confusing, because real estate in the south can often be less expensive than elsewhere in the US.
Off topic fun fact for our far away neighbors: Probably not really that unique to the US, but real estate prices in the US vary wildly. This house could cost (I'm totally guestimating) $200,000 in one part of the country and $1,500,000 USD in another.
This looks awesome! Is that a dappled willow in the left corner? They just get prettier every year! I adore mine so much.
Yep. That’s it.
looks great! do you have a link for the new garage doors? been looking for something similar - a modern upgrade to my standard, old white ones.
they are Clopay. [www.clopay.com](https://www.clopay.com). Modern Steel line.
I've heard this is one of the best brands. What's your experience? Do you agree?
im happy with them. the quality is great. we do not have living space above the garage, so insulation and what not is not as apparent to me.
Hear me out tint some of those windows it’ll looks great plus extra privacy and save $ on energy
This has to be the Brady Bunch house.. love it
Even the blue house in the background looks better.
Looks great, especially the garage. Just missing the flag from before 🇺🇸, great job!
I think the garage doors were the nicest improvement, but all looks wonderful
I don’t think those white frosted windows match the house well personally.
What color grey is that?
SW Iron Ore
You need to put the US flag back up somewhere. Looks great otherwise.
You think tastefully flying a single smallish flag of your country is white trash?
It must depend on the country, I saw many great looking homes in the USA flying it proudly, but here in Australia it wouldn’t be seen as a classy addition.
It still is. Almost all of the houses in my neighborhood fly it because we know it does stand for freedom and hope.
We understand we are not perfect, but we do our best.
Go fuck yourself
Imagine being downvoted 20 times for saying the flag makes your house look better. Reddit is full CCP.
Lmao the irony
Not surprised you wouldn’t understand
The US Flag makes the house look cool. Looks kinda low class without.
I see you and I are getting downvoted for wanting the ID flag back up. Good times.
Such is life. Apparently it's in vogue to hate the US.
Yeah, sure seems like it.
Similar to the photo of a communist girl hating on capitalism with an Apple laptop and a Starbucks.
Flagpole in the yard
From a perspective, and not an opinion, I’ve noticed a lot more flags being flown since Trump lost his second term. I think a lot of republicans fly it now as a way to be like “we miss you buddy”. That part is an opinion. A ton of republicans in my neighborhood fly a flag upside down, which is petty and white trashy no matter how much money they have.
There was a dude down the street who flew his flag upside down the day after Mrs. Clinton lost until President Biden was sworn in. It happens.
The flag does not and should not represent a party, a person, or the government. It should represent the citizens and I feel it still does.
Incredible! Very nice indeed. Job well done. Forgot to put your flag back up though
You removed the flag *thumbs up*
I love when exteriors get updated but still maintain their old charm!! Love that grey color too. Really interesting architecture, reminds me of something from the Sims
Incredible! Love the colors and the garage doors!
Looks nice. I am looking to paint my house a similar color. Thanks for the reference!
Looks very nice... I wonder what bright white would look like on the walls, but leave the trim pieces dark. I like the new black light fixture, I think it would pop too.
Wow looks great! What did you do to the wall?
Nothing. I did pressure wash it. But it pops more with the darker color I think. Kept it the same based on a recommendation from this group.
Love the doors
I also got my house painted this year. What a huge difference it makes.
Why does your roof look like a different color (assumed new) but still have the streaking of a old roof?
Roof still needs done. Need to replenish the stockpiles!
Is this house in Missouri by chance?
Landscaping looks different but one isn’t better than the other. Kind of confused. House looks different but this is landscaping subreddit right?
I disagree. The new landscaping is an improved aesthetic.
This looks fucking great!!!
Your house is beautiful both before and after.
What did you do to the garage window on the left side? Some kind of frosting? Thx!
Yes. Replaced the thermal unit of that window to match the garage doors better.
Cool! Do you have any links to what you might have used or similar?
I do not. i would google a local window and glass company. its pretty standard frosting and they should know what you need. i believe this was \~$330 installed.
What a pleasant transformation
Bang up job!
What paint color is that?
Amazing job! :)
Love the garage
Very interested in the back yard and rest of the house! Especially the rockwall
A whole new vibe
Looks much more modern. Very cool
Looks nice do you know when it was built
1984 or so
Mind me asking how much the project cost and how much value it added to your home? Looks great btw, good job.
I’d say prob $12,000. Major items would be:
1. Paint on house and labor
2. Garage Doors
4. Landscape lighting
Hard to say how much it added. It has been a sellers market so I’d say I would Make out pretty well if I decided to sell.
Norfolk? Looks just like a house in my old neighborhood
Great job! The after pic would look even better with old glory flying!
Not landscaping related (but neither are half the comments in this thread), but I cannot believe how in focus the interior of the house is, looking through the front door.
I really love this "modern" architectural style of house, even though, I'm guessing, it's not anywhere close to being new and probably an uncommon style to be built today. u/gtj105 do you mind sharing what year the house was built?
I believe it was 1984 or so
What are the plants in your garden bed in front of the rock wall in the update? I love the height and texture contrast!
3 standard limelight hydrangea trees
6 wintergem boxwoods
5 northern lights tufted grass
Wow - are you not an American patriot anymore or……?
lipstick on a pig
Don’t be a cunt.
Looks good. Missing a flag though
Why did you take down the flag ?????
He obviously hates America. /s
Then we should channel ban him !! Hate not welcome !!!
I dunno, it's less American, not much of an improvement in that sense
Where's the flag pole at!?
I found the difference. You removed the flag. Didn't you?
