The finishing move

Imagine being sent overseas on a mission where you could be shot down, captured, executed, etc. just so command can troll some nazis
Yo gotta do it for the lolz
more like do it for the holz
Goddamn german humor..
Lolz be earned by massive ballz.

Allied Command: We do a little trollin
Morale is pretty important in war, it's probably more than worth the risk.
I mean you say trolling, I say mental warfare. Imagine finding out you made a bunch of people build a fake base for nothing. That's gotta sting.
The psychological impact on command was probably pretty important. Sows that seed of doubt that your enemy already knows your plans. Consistent second guessing is dangerous especially when a day or even a few hours can be the difference between winning the day and staggering loses.
It's also the idea that they knew so much that they just *let* them waste their time and resources.
That is done quite often. All that binds materials. Example is the U-boat bunker valentine in Bremen, Germany. The allies knew about it, but until it was finished, it wasn't producing anything. And since it is quite massive, they let them build it, as it bound quite a lot of man power and resources. They only started bombarding it when it was close to being finished.
never interrupt your opponent when he is making a mistake - napoleon dynamite
Wasting their time and resources is the name of the game while I sit back and laugh... Get fucked
Yeah, they build fake bases when they don't have the resources for real bases let alone the resources to properly defend them, basically mocking them for it is going to be a huge morale hit.
I’d gladly have signed up for that mission!
I had a smaj that wanted to stand on the border and piss into every country that bordered afghanistan. Fucking leprechaun.
Well there is the genius of the plan.
The Germans were probably not defending the hangar very well and were hoping to use it just a red herring and encourage the Brits to waste resources and divert them away from the actual important sites.
With that in mind there was probably less danger for doing this than on a normal mission and the Brits got to demoralise their intelligence efforts by letting the Germans know they were 2 steps ahead.
Reverse uno card
You really don’t understand combat aviators. These dudes were probably tripping over each other frighting to be the one to do the troll. I got stories man
Reminds me of a post on r/militarystories about a pilot pretending to try and land his medium bomber on an aircraft carrier in the pacific, only to dip out at the last moment, causing some on the deck of the ship to jump over the side.
Airmen and infantry, you guys aren't so different after all.
There’s the legendary sr-71 speed check troll… hell a few months ago the blue angels and the thunder birds did a demo flight around manhattans downtown and in the bay… nobody else saw the trolling that I saw: thunderbirds stayed in between the blues and the city the whole time, obscuring their view and the spectator view of them. Impossibly unintentional. Or when a B-52 did a flyover of an F-14 fighter airframe retirement
What are they gonna shoot you with? Siplinters?
Toothpicks. German engineered toothpicks. The 'German engineered' part is important.
What the fuck did you think we meant we said you could fight for justice?
We do a little trolling
Let he who has not trolled drop the first wooden bomb.
The "bomb" was built by the airmen if the Observation unit, and a camera plane dropped it.
I'd promte that pilot. If you have the balls to risk entering enemey territory for a joke you'd be damned sure they're gonna have the balls to fly towards more dangerous targets.
Ever heard of psy-ops? Cause they are dudes that literally sit on megaphones and shit talk the enemy, telling them that they hide behind women and children cause they fuck children.
Have you ever met a 90+ year old veteran? They would be fumbling over themselves volunteering to go meme the Nazis like this. Not to mention, the prospect of lowering enemy morale/raising your own and having a good propaganda piece (so good it’s still discussed on reddit nearly a century later) is just as valuable as meeting physical objectives.
I don’t know. Demoralizing the enemy in such a way is likely more effective than hundreds of bombing runs. A lot of the time, if you can demoralize individual soldiers to not fight, to run away, or to surrender quickly, than that’s far more effective than trying to kill each one of them.
I would absolutely do it, not gonna lie
Given the nature of the RAF at the time I imagine the pilots were fighting over who got to do it :P
Imagine knowing the enemy has all of your secrets and you know none of thiers
(it's a Dönitz quote)
Psychological warfare is real warfare. It's also hella funny
In a heartbeat. I wouldn't let command take any fucking credit though.
I wonder if the airfield was even defended, I'm guessing not.
That's some pro level trolling.
This is hilarious but I almost feel sorry for the people who came up with the idea because you KNOW they were executed.
That’s a bit brash, even for the nazis
He took the midnight train going anywhere
The allies did a similar thing just in a better way, they built a fake tank squad and a fake battalion, the axis fell for it tho
even better when you consider the Allied fake base was part of of preperations for D-Day landing, and if they axis never fell for it D-Day might not be as celebrated as it is today. (or maybe just as celebrated... if we were all speaking German)
Edit: i was trying to change my user flair
Edit2: i have downvoted my comment
Edit3 :i am typing
They just said Hi, why the downvotes?
My guess is people thought “they’re trying to leech off the top comment’s upvotes”
oh, understandable, have a nice day!
I was trying to change my flair
I think because the link in his flair is [this video](https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ) and he didn't put any effort into disguising it.
you smart bastard.. doesn't matter, I love that sound.
Reddit hive mind at its finest.
I was trying to change in my flair by commenting "hi" but the whole reddit is awake
>!Rick Roll link !
“Every link that ends with XcQ shall stay blue” that’s my golden rule to not get rickrolled
No bigger humiliation than to have your plan mocked by the enemy.
I acquired the knowledge to create one wooden bomb.
With that, I will inflict upon the Nazis the greatest insult an enemy can suffer: *to be ignored.*
They did nazi that coming
I tree what you did there.
I guess their plan was a bit wooden.
It's a bit stiff but it's a go
The RAF wooden have it?
They're morning after the loss
They should have Czech-ed their surroundings
You mean "they did nazi that coming"? Otherwise you have see twice.
Smh my head
Shaking my head my head
You can’t even make the pun correctly 😂😂 “nazi” and “see” repeated here, ruining the pun.
They were trolled by their own people lol, the RAF was german and did some messed up stuff in the future
To be fair, the Germans probably found it hilarious
Do you have a source? I looked it up and only found that it was a rumour
Quick search shows that the germans really made the decoy camp and that the RAF knew about it. The rumor is about sending a single plane to drop a fake bomb. Still funny that the germans spent so much time building that huge decoy for nothing.
> Still funny that the germans spent so much time building that huge decoy for nothing.
When you're resource-starved in all ways except to make decoys, you make decoys.
True, but the fake bomb part is equally hilarious
> Quick search shows that the germans really made the decoy camp and that the RAF knew about it.
Which was extremely common practice on both sides, especially in counter intelligence operations. The fact the Germans did it once isn't any sort of indication that the story is true.
The whole thing reeks of creative story telling and post-war-propaganda.
i wish i could have a proper gander at some real facts
The usa was doing something similar too
The allies were very careful about acting on information so as to keep secret how much intelligence they have. It doesn't make sense that they would do something like this for the lulz.
Depends on the location, it could have been a piece of intelligence they came up with a fake story for.
many other people are pointing out this is highly demoralizing, having gone through all the effort to make the fake base only for the Brits to know and laugh at you. morale is pretty important in war.
Snopes (a fact checking site) points out that that’s assuming they actually see the plane, see it drop the bomb, realize it is a bomb, and that the wooden bomb doesn’t shatter into pieces on impact after falling from hundreds of meters up. Huge waste of a plane and a trained pilot for something that maybe might work.
Nonsense. That's true for intelligence gained from spies or electronic intelligence, but it hurts nobody to let the Germans know that they spotted their amateurish decoy construction. On the contrary, they demoralize those involved to know they'd been wasting their time.
This is r/madlads worthy
If it was true
Just a little bit of trolling
Even if the Allies knew about it for months, it probably didn't actually take months to build the fake.
The point of something like this is to make your enemy waste his efforts disproportionately after all. If you spend months building it and then the enemy bombs it in a night, that's not an effective use of resources.
Time used != resources used
While that is true, time used is also a resource that can be wasted.
Yes of course but that logic does not work in reverse. If you talk about resources, you have to take a lot into account.
For example, the wooden fakes coulda been built by POW's who could not be trusted with "real" tasks, which would in turn require "real" resources.
Especially the human resources should be one of the most important.
"That's how actually the war ended they started to play with wooden toys"
*Trolling increased 100*
"Our bruvs did a little trolling"
Oh please please tell me a Mosquito dropped it.. You know, the Wooden Wonder
We do a small amount of trolling
fake wooden aircraft is not too far of of the real German late war aircraft.
Fun fact: the Allied Forces used inflatable tanks, cars, etc and made fake tank tracks to trick the Axis recon planes in preparation for D-Day
Yeah, 100% didn’t happen. Why would they fly bombers over the English Channel, risking hardware and trained aircrews, just to drop one fake bomb? These “fake” German air bases were protected by very real anti-aircraft guns and fighters/interceptors would still be scrambled to meet the allied plane(s). May sound good in a meme, but makes no sense in the real world.
It's considered slightly more then an urban legend depending on sources as there's said to have been credible eye witnesses at the time. Either way I hope it is true and it's just a light hearted meme at the end of it
“Said to have had credible eyewitnesses”
Journalist for “trust me bro”
Might be a little too serious to just appreciate the idea.
However the wooden German base is true and same with the allies knowing about it. Bombing it is a rumour.
You're free to use this 'mystical' Google I've been hearing about if a funny idea/meme bothers you xD
Yeh the RAF had fake bases too, plenty of fake settlements to make the German bombers get confused, or bomb the wrong place. Happened a lot. There was also the fake tanks, and tanks pretending to be trucks in Africa.
Well to be fair, this is r/memes. I think some people are taking this shit a little too seriously.
I’d volunteer for the mission. Risks aside this is top tier trolling that I’d want to brag to the boys about.
Found the life of the party.
The bomb wasn't dropped by a bombing raid. It was delivered by the same Reconnaissance plane that regularly photographed the site.
Thought RAF was Rote Armee Fraktion, was there another group with this short form?
I mean the RAF I know was around in the seventies, a bit after the second world war.
It's the Royal Air Force bro, an Air division section of the British military
Oh, that makes more sense. Thanks
Is this true? Please include a source if you’re claiming it to be
Almost certainly not:
When the tricksters are tricked
This is a "we do a little trolling" moment before it became a thing.
Just pat*trolling* the perimeter
That's when the general said:
Well done boiz, we're history
Their games had low graphics on, probably was a bit..loggy
RAF sees the airfield: Hold my beer
In WW2 i think the allies did something but with inflatable tanks, and the tanks needed to be weighed down so they wouldnt fly around, so imagine being a nazi before the tanks has been weighed down and seeing a flying tank and being confused as how a tank is flying
Germans got rickrolled
That is hilarious.
This may be the single most British joke I've ever heard in my life.
Guess they didn’t know that their plan wooden work..
In the great words of, a jojo character idk the name of. He said and I quote"You may have outsmarted me, but i outsmarted your outsmarting!"
😂 you actually got me to laugh today thanks!
They did ***nazi*** that coming!!
I thought the wooden bomb was a giant fucking blunt for a second-
WW2 was kinda hilarious, ngl
I saw this yesterday in a museum in belguim (vacation)
Wasn’t it wet there? Kek.
I think this is WW1
You may outsmart me, but I outsmart your outsmartness
“Today we’re gonna do a bit of trolling”
This is the funny parts of war that schools do not teach. We want the cool stuff
Churchile 100 precent came up with that one
To trick the allies? Why tho?
Even if the war was won at this point, it's still a stupid idea to telegraph to your enemy that you see through their tricks. It's more advantageous for you if your foe is wasting their time and resources thinking their tactics might still work.
I guess no one noticed but "bombe en bois"
What's the source? Is it real or fake? It's on r/memes so it's supposed to be fake and original I think, but it was also posted [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Damnthatsinteresting/comments/ollhoh/during_ww2_the_germans_builta_fake_wooden/).
this is strangley wholesome
Its funny we came back and actually tricked the fuck out of the nazis with Inflatable Tanks. Funny they thought they were so smart yet the allies were ALWAYS one step ahead.
So you've the been meaning to tell me whenever the Germans did any deception tactics, we were 10 steps ahead, but whenever the Allies did any deception tactics, the Germans became the epitome of a surprise pikachu face?
Probably the biggest fuck you I have ever seen😂
I'm disappointed it doesn't say "boom!"
The raf had its own fake ballon army as well
that's why women live more than men, they just wanted to troll
That’s some serious ‘we happy few’ vibes
I can just image a german soldier hiding in a bush watching as a plane flies over the fake airfield and bombs then the german wonders why theres no explosion, checks the bomb only to find out it was made of wood
Gonna be amazing seeing 🇺🇸 realise 🇬🇧 is playing the long game with their "independence"
Oh bruh that’s so bullying
My guess is this is one piece of intelligence they actually did use from breaking enigma.
Gotta do it for the content
Bet that was a touchy subject
Just found the real reason behind WW2
Biggest UNO reverse card in history
This hasn't been proven and is more than likely a myth.
no way that actually happened
World war wood
And then NATO built a huge fake one too but the Axis didn’t know lmao
I'm sick of hearing this repeated on reddit as fact. The single source is one guy who wrote in his journal that he heard it in a pub. Clearly, it was such a funny joke that he considered it worth recording. That's it!
Pro gamer move
Yknow if I was leading a quest for world domination and I got my people clowned on this hard, I’d probably off myself too.
History that's better than fiction
This just affirms my belief that our grandparents and great grandparents were just as much trolls as the rest of us.
