Does Anyone remember when messi was just a teenager and about to break out and to became the best in the world.
Where there many clubs in for him? Because If you look today at mbappe and haaland almost all worldclass clubs want to have them.
I dont remember it when messi was their age because I was just a kid back then
Did anyone ever make a bid on messi when he was a teenager or did all clubs already know that messi never would leave barca
Iirc arsenal did try and sign him. I think at that time you could sign a pro contract at a younger age in England than in Spain. That’s how they got Fabregas and United got Pique.
But Messi is a rare case because he came through at one of the biggest clubs in the world, he had no reason to leave.
Pogba -> PSG
Mbappe -> Madrid
Varane -> United
Rank the teams based on who benefits the most if this transfer triangle happens
real > united > psg
Is there a generally accepted definition for the term farmers league?
Edit: who downvotes a question lmao.
Honestly it's just PL fans that want to feel superior to other leagues
Any league that’s a 1-2 horse race for the title.
anything besides the EPL = farmers league
That’s a lot of leagues damn.
I often wonder if local farmers competing for deals to sell vegetable and meat produce to national supermarkets call hack places like Lidl the Bundesliga.
In an hypothetical scenario, if Ronaldo had gone to PSG instead of Juventus after he left Real Madrid, do you think PSG would've won a UCL by now?
They win the final vs Bayern if they had Ronaldo so yes.
Yeah, I recon they would've won one by now. He could've definitely been the difference maker. They were very close against Bayern. If they hadn't completely broke down mentally and had someone with Ronaldo's mentality and I think they could've won one already.
They still don’t have a midfield.
I don't think so.
Schalke are going down down down
~~Aufstieg~~ Abstieg 2022
Why don't any Saudi players play abroad? Is it simply lack of talent, or are they not allowed to?
I wonder what the Venn diagram looks like for football fans who don't want to get vaccinated, for fear of putting "a potentially harmful foreign substance" in their body, and those who enjoy booze and drugs as part of their essential matchday experience
I can understand the counter argument for mandatory vaccination if it relates to personal freedom and autonomy (although I personally think the benefit far outweighs the risk, and think it is valid government strategy to mandate that those attending high risk large gatherings be vaccinated) - but you can bet people using the "foreign substance" argument pour their body full of all sorts of crap
Can guarantee a COVID jab has undergone more vigorous testing than the Charlie you're snorting off a toilet seat
Like when you see stoners on Facebook talking about not wanting put “that vaccine shit” in their bodies.
I saw a woman smoking outside with a mask on her chin yesterday and thought she’s inhaling way worse than that mask is protecting her from.
Personally if it was me I’d be running a massive information campaign to educate people on vaccines, billboards, tv ads, getting as many scientists on as many news outlets as possible to explain it all in as simple terms as possible. But then there are people who just won’t listen to that stuff and won’t take it anyway so I can see the appeal of the stick approach vs the carrot.
Vaccines should never be mandatory as it sets a horrendous precedent (except in certain jobs tbh, where you’re more at risk of catching/spreading like hospital work) but we do need to find ways of nudging people towards the scientifically correct decision.
Booze is fun. My vaccines just meant I couldn't use my right arm to wank for 2 days.
Good luck wanking with a whiskey dick
Well then put it on the left arm
It's crazy that Cristiano joined Manchester united as a kid, left as the best player in the world and after winning everything in the season before, joined us when we were rebuilding the team and became one of the best (for some even the best) player in history and still left to Juve because he was looking for more challenges (and earn more money). Someone should take notes
Going to juve was not a big of a challenge. It was just collecting league titles as much as he can
So this is what r/soccer looks like at this time
World class player played for 3 elite clubs across his 17 year long career. More news at 9
Some players would've called it a day if they achieved half what Cristiano achieved.
people are so reactionary irl, been hearing that Villa will make top 4 if they get Leon Bailey. it’s so exceptionally hard for a non super league club to actually secure that champions league place in the prem, take it from us after last year
I mean Leciester were in the running to make the CL for two years in a row before they bottled it.
It's not as hard as you claim it is, especially since Leicester sacrificed the CL in order to win their first FA Cup.
I could see us challenge for it, like you or Leicester. It was already a pretty level playing field last season. Making top 4 comes down to more than just good signings tho, for sure.
we’ll be nowhere near this year unfortunately, this summer window has been nothing short of dreadful. hopefully you, leicester or leeds could prove me wrong and sneak that 4th spot, as unlikely as i think it is
Thats a shame, things could still happen! What were you hoping for this window? I'm guessing some kind of striking replacement for Haller, for sure?
striker, goalkeeper, CB, CM, quite a few depth options and the obvious Lingard permanent deal is what i wanted but we’ve bought no one and it seems that’s how it’ll stay, with rumours swirling around that we’re actually in some serious financial shit.
Matheus Pereira’s 30m tag is putting the David’s off and Lingard is just not happening so at this point i’d just go for Danjuma or something. So yeah, pretty depressing window compared to yours 🤣🤣
I’d take any European place, give me some conference league footy if that’s what it takes
I do agree, I think it’s between the top 4 and Leicester again to battle it out for CL
Can’t believe people are saying that.
Clearly we would win the league with him.
i’d take it, saves us from City’s inevitable 98 point season again
If Villa sign Bailey they will come upwards of 9th. How far is down to form, and Arsenal will finish directly behind them.
oh no doubt they’ll be good, assembling a very nice side but Leicester 15/16 miracle aside, the top 4 is exceptionally hard to crack for teams outside the traditional top 6.
For Barca fans I have hypothetical question, let’s say Messi is aged 26 years old right now and Madrid come asking to buy him “and you still have the financial difficulties just like in the present”
And they offered 450$ millions would you sell him?
A 26 year old Messi would be worth $1B easily.
Messi brings in enormous revenue for the club selling him for 450m of whatever currency that is doesn’t help anything
I think the difficulty is with la liga wage caps so really someone offering 450mil is irrelevant.
they can clear debts or start building a stadium
I don't know enough about the financial rules of La Liga so I'm going to stop talking now.
I don't think you understand our financial situation if you're asking that. Like half of this sub though.
Yes I don’t but i have heard you’re in difficult situation :)
Even without financial situations you would refuse 450m if you were the CEO?
The club has a huge debt but it's manageable long term. No risk or bankruptcy nor anything like that, but the lack of liquidity has been an issue. So much so that the debt was restructured to pay the players this last few months. We will dig out of the whole though. So with the club not at risk of disappearing, why would you sell the best player of all time to your biggest and most direct rival? That's shooting yourself in the foot.
No chance, not a Barca fan but I guarantee no chance they’d want that
Is Zidane considered a Juve legend?
Got shafted by Riedle
he better be
Bundesliga > serie a
Quality will only get bigger
They're probably equal after this season just gone.
PL > La liga > Bundesliga > seria a
Ofc we have more money, better coaches and we steal talents from the French
As much as i enjoyed Scotlands foray into international tournament football, i cannot wait until I see inter again. Have pencilled in my date to get back to milan
Considering that thread from earlier, here’s an unpopular opinion: B Silva is not worth £60m. Especially considering it’s Man City themselves that want to offload him and KdB cost £55m
You’re right he’s worth £80m
Sure he is
Why are you judging his worth based on what a player who’s improved cost 5 years ago?
Because I think we all knew what KdB was going to turn into and he’s done just that.
That’s doesn’t mean Wolfsburg could hold out for more than what was already a massive sum.
Eh there was no risk of that not that I blame them for taking it. The man was already a world class player and Man City would’ve just paid more or someone else would’ve.
Unless new news came forth it wasn't City that wanted to offload him, it was him wanting to leave
My mistake then. Thought they were making space for Grealish and Kane
You’d think Pep would give his favourite player more playing time
Played 3319 minutes
Aston Villa vs Arsenal is a new rivalry because Arsenal got outbid for a Championship player?
Arsenal has a way of finding themselved being midly bullied from midtable clubs and it's always funny, the thread of Aston Villa bidding for ESR was the icing on the cake
Villa are clearly the better club due to their European success
Why do you put these shouts it’s embarrassing. Aren’t you like 19?
Oh dear. Might no sleep tonight
Nothing wrong with it
I mean there’s nothing wrong with it. Just immature. The patter is abysmal
On par with those Pessi shouts
About as weak as you dicking on a kid for some mildly crap banter, for no real reason, really
A kid? I literally said aren’t you 19? If it was 15 I’d agree with you 100%
19 is still a kid to me, they're a teenager. I'm 27 now and I think back to myself when I was 19 as a very different and *much* younger person.
Either way, you've made an active decision to be a dick to someone for no real reason. There's a person behind that comment, and it's just not really necessary for you to dick on them. If a user's comments annoy you, you can always block them rather than trying to make their day worse.
I think the patter is absolutely abysmal. It’s football Twitter level. This place has literally gone the dogs in the past 6 months because people keep spouting this garbage and in my opinion it’s boring.
You can say I’m boring etc. But at least I’m not just regurgitating the same all shit all day. I didn’t realise saying someone was 19 was so offensive. I apologise for mentioning his name estimated age
Mentioning his age isn’t offensive - I’m just pointing out there’s really no reason for you to be a dick here just because you’re disappointed in the “level of discourse”, in what is a very inoffensive comment. If you’re getting that upset about a comment as mild as that, it’s probably prudent for you to assess whether or not the time spending here is worthwhile for you.
These comments are written by living, breathing human beings - and when you’re being rude and derisory, it’s worthwhile remembering the person behind that.
It’s not the discourse though. I just think it’s an insanely boring and repetitive comment that adds absolutely nothing. Whilst I appreciate that is subjective, it is apparent that the quality here has tanked recently due to the spamming of comments like OP.
I hope that it’s just a summer thing and when the leagues start again it all stops
It’s about as funny as getting punted in the bollocks
Villa managed to get Smith-Rowe a bumper pay rise too
And the number 10 shirt, likely meaning they won’t be trying to get someone like Maddison now
No it’s because they are a small club with no European success.
They like punching up at villa. Luckily our fans don’t like punching down.
This year Elif Elmas will show that he is the new Macedonian king after Pandev. Also, fuck off Mario Rui, get of the club I love.
So I know a lot has been said about Suarez and his move to Atleti playing a huge role in their title run, but how about Real loaning Bale only to lose the title by 2 points?
Obviously both moves were fueled by the pandemic and, at least in Barças case, poor financial management, it makes complete sense financially to make these moves especially as Real have been desperate for any sort of assistance with Bale's wage for years.
But let's be real. Bale played excellent in the time he was given during his Tottenham stint (from what I saw and analyzed through stats) and Real were desperate for another scoring threat all season (among other things, of which Bale poesses many qualities). I honestly believe if Real again had to keep Bale and he got 10+ league matches under his belt they could very well be sitting pretty with 2 straight La Liga titles and their 35th league title in their history.
His head was not there. The previous seasons he was terrible
On a lot of Ronaldo vs Messi youtube videos I see comments that say Messi was diagnosed with Aspergers when he was a kid. Is this true or are they just taking the piss?
People mistake him being shy with Aspergers.
I saw him twice, once in KSA and once in Kuwait.
(I worked for a foundation that used to host matches for big football clubs in the middle east, they flew us in to organize these matches).
Unless it was a well kept secret messi does not have aspergers nor does he show any symptoms of that kind.
Some autism awareness charities have listed Messi as being a famous person with autism but to my knowledge he’s never officially said anything to imply that he actually has been diagnosed.
There’s some unconfirmed reports that he was diagnosed when he was 9 but nothing of actual substance
Some people throw Autism around quite freely these days but it’s a complex disorder. Some people can display traits associated with Autism but are not actually Autistic, some people are Autistic but don’t present “classic” traits normally associated with it.
I'm guessing the Mbappe posts on new are bullshit
[reason number 202010291881 you stay away from ](https://www.reddit.com/r/football/comments/opxf46/lewandowski_in_his_prime_or_suarez_in_his_prime/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) r/football
I'll stay away from you more like.
there's an r/football?
Not like this place is any better really. The exact same topic came up here a few days ago and someone claimed Suarez was top 10 of all time. I got downvoted for calling it a massive stretch.
Must be a young sub who never saw prime Suarez.
, he said on r/soccer
Looked up him after quite some time out of sheer curiosity and it turns out Alen Halilovic is currently without a Club after having last played for Birmingham City. What an outrageous fall from grace.
I’d retire from football if I was unfortunately enough to end up at small Heath
What grace? he was just some overhyped kid. I bet PSG Xavi will also follow the same path
fun fact there’s an English Xavi Simons as well
Anyone got a number for the German police so I can get them to put the Schalke players in prison?
0118 999 881 999 119 7253
Cheers. Hopefully the old bill will be smashing into their gaffs as we speak
The disrespect Arsenal get is outrageous. Villa apparently had better players in nearly every position last season yet all it took was 1 Grealish injury for them to sink and finish below us. That was with our best player out of form, our top scorer having scored the fewest amount by any our top scorers in over a decade and winning 1 in 10 games in the first half of the season.
I think in a combined 11 we do probably have more players tbf, our team has just been massively over dependent on Grealish to function in attack. That’s a pretty fatal flaw in a team which is why getting someone in to try and address that has been so important. In the end last year Arsenal did better than Villa as the table doesn’t lie, we’re making pretty rapid upwards progress though
Cash Konsa Mings Targett
Buendia Grealish Auba
Pretty much, although maybe Tierney>Targett but I’m honestly not certain
When I did a combined 11 in one of those Buendia threads a while ago it was consensus amongst Arsenal fans that they’d have Saliba over Konsa (which is funny considering he’s never been able to wear an Arsenal shirt), Mari over Mings and Lacazette over Watkins, as well as Tierney, but apart from Tierney I don’t agree with any of that
Makes me think we really did fall off badly in the last third of the season, ffs Barkley
Is McGinn not better than Luiz? Surely…
In my opinion we use McGinn badly, he’s better further up the field than sat in a 2 in front of the defence where he’s not been that amazing, granted Luiz ended the season out of form but for a period of about 6 months last year he was our best player after Jack (and actually better than Jack during project restart)
Basically it’s a close call imo
Saliba the “Mbappe of defenders” lol.
After last season Tierney and Targett is a coin toss. I fucking hate Ross Barkley. You’d have to be on crack to choose Laca over Watkins
Honestly I’ve heard so much about Saliba over the past year or two that he’s become a bit of a mythical figure, not sure Arsenal fans haven’t just made him up because it boggles the mind that he can be that good and not get a game for them...
Every time I see your name you're whining in DD about how disrespected Arsenal are, surely you have better things to do than being absolutely rattled by Villa fans
Good for you.
It's pretty much only last season that matters. Sure we finished 8th the season before but it was basically the same as coming 5th because we won the FA Cup and got Europa league anyway.
Your fans said your team was shit until ESR came into it.
You’re saying villa are shit without Grealish.
TBF that was the make of a tactical change more than Just ESR Villa just couldn’t play without Grealish
We definitely struggled without him, he is also our captain as well our best player. Hopefully he doesn’t get injured but if he does Buendia should stop us from struggling.
We were both shit without those players but the fact we finished quite comfortably higher in the table suggests to me our team/squad was better than Villa's quite easily.
I wouldn’t say 6 points is comfortably higher.
Villa got 20 points more than the season before. We are massively improving while Arsenal are staying the same.
Buendia means we won’t collapse without Grealish, we will also do better in games we have both.
Is lokonge, tavares and White improving arsenal?
You have been on an upward trajectory I agree and Buendia is a nice signing on paper.
I wouldn't say we are staying the same, it's just our academy products developing don't count as new signings so they're automatically discounted for whatever reason. Both Saka and Smith Rowe will have benefitted hugely from last season and naturally I expect to see more consistency in their performances.
We are also getting rid of our 2 most error prone players, potentially 3 if Leno leaves too. I'd say White is a huge upgrade on Luiz for that reason alone, but the biggest reason I think White will be a great signing is because he carries the ball extremely well. Ball progression has been one of our biggest problems in recent years. Luiz's mobility limited him in that regard, he just didn't have the legs to go with the passing range he was gifted.
Lokonga is also great on the ball, and for that reason alone is a big upgrade on our current midfield which lacks technical ability. As depth? I have no issues and if Partey gets injured I feel much more confident in relying on him than someone I already know isn't at the level required in Elneny.
I still thing your biggest issue is creating good chances. Against Villarreal you seemed hopeless over the 180 minutes. The Chelsea game you conceded loads of chances and scored of a Chelsea error.
Arsenal fans are so oppressed
The fact you’re engaging with that like this is a sign of how bad we’ve become. The fact is our team and villas team is comparable right now they are doing more to improve than us and if Grealish stays fit for a full season it could happen.
It depends on how you look at it. We finished the same number of points ahead of Villa as we finished behind Chelsea. Improving our squad is harder than what would be needed to improve Villa's the same way it's harder to improve Chelsea's squad than it is ours.
Where can I buy those training Pantacourts the players always wear in training? Especially PSG players and Mbappe always posts shorts that are over the knee almost like sweatpants but end right before the shin. Where can I find them
Martial earns more than Son
United's wage structure is ass, De Gea earns 375k a week
De gea deserves his wage after he was carrying us a few years ago
We've been improving massively over the last few years. Bruno is on peanuts comparatively and De Gea will be gone within 2 years.
We've been doing well since Ole came in. Not to say it's because he came in.
I earn the same as Messi
Kepa earns more than Son so ?
I completely forgot about Sons new contract. Son was on 140k or something before and Kepa on 150k
Martial earns more than every player in the league except for like 6.
He earns more than Bruno.
Heard you signed son for 4 years, don't you think that's too much for a 29 year old?
Wasn't asking with my arsenal hat on, being genuine.
I think he is worth it.
He relies on his pace and athleticism, 4 year deal would he perfect - expect him to stay at this high level for like 2 years at least and then drop.
200k is nothing for someone like him when we also have Ndombele getting that much.
He can't afford to have any long term injury or off season.
You could be right, since he's not on obscene wages that'll keep his head screwed on right. That part of the deal is definitely good.
hes so far not been injury prone.
but hey you never know.
You’re not including all the adverts son must get in South Korea considering he’s a mega celeb there
Meunier earns more than Baku
Earn this ratio
United have a terrible wage structure
Because of Sanchez
What the fuck do PSG do if Mbappe refuses to sign a new contract and Ronaldo doesn't look like he'll leave Juve this year?
Di Maria and Paredes kidnap messi
Live yes, but they may not win the league
Pogba and Griezmann
Griezmann is not going there
It's Paris, if he has to leave the Barca shitshow and Atleti can't afford him, Paris is his best bet.
Who would be considered the best right back of prem era? Neville and dixon gotta be top 3 surely
Trent and Walker
Zabaletta and Walker obviously
Honestly Neville belongs nowhere, longevity shouldn’t count for anything if you’re consistently just above average. People will use the “yeah but he’s won this many trophies argument and Fergie loved him” argument but every top team has had those water carriers that obviously aren’t as good as the rest but a good influence in the changing room. Talent wise Neville would be spun in circles by modern full backs; Sagan, Walker, Ivanovic, Trent all clear
Neville, for the football style at the time, was elite.
One of the worst takes I've seen here. Neville was captain of the team for several years lmao no average player is getting captain for a team that was best in the league.
> consistently just above average
Absolutely nonsense if you think Neville was just above average or a water carrier in any sense.
Reece James is clear
